Version 1.8 has been released.
It adds a number of improvements to the sound editor, selection, undo/redo behavior as well as better compatibility with Vista installation guidelines.
It can be downloaded from the usual here.
IMPORTANT. The format of the artoonix project file has been changed to improve the performance. There are no issues in using files created in previous artoonix versions but versions 1.7 and below will not be able to open files created or modified in version 1.8. Naturally, it is strongly recommend to back up your projects before switching to this new version.

Details on the new features:
1. Audio effects (accessible from the menu or the audio panel buttons)
- Fade In/Out
- Volume level
- Speed and rate change
- Reverse
- Export to stand-alone files, including mix of tracks
2. Selection can now be made for a particular time interval and it can be made for video and/or audio. This functionality can also be accessed in draft video window with "selection" button.
3. Undo/Redo for the whole project now stores/restores the selections made before the operation.
4. The default answer to the compression question when finishing working with a project has been reverted to "No".
5. "Relative" tabs are now before "Absolute".
6. Compatibility with Vista. The internal artoonix files .ini and .opt as well as folders "Projects" and "Movies" are now placed in My Documents\Artoonix folder.
Once again, it is strongly recommend to back up your projects before switching to the new version.

Please see the updated help files for details on how to use the new tools.

I happened to to be online when v1.8 popped up.

Your list of changes to the sound functions is useful and succinct - what other changes are there? From a quick look, it seems as if you have increased the range of choices for thickness of lines when drawing.

Any other changes or tweaks that deserve to be described?

I haven't as yet had time to check the Help file to see if you've added additional details about new or improved functions and options ... I assume so.

The new sound options must now surely make Artoonix the best and easiest animation program when it comes to synchronising sound to movement. (It was pretty well at that level anyway by the time of v1.7). I hope we start seeing (and hearing) some innovative applications soon in the gallery.

Nice one.

Brief demo here:

Dare we hope for modifications to the pivot system in a future upgrade of Artoonix? ....... it's nice to dream.
