Into the gallery, I just tried uploading a movie which demonstrates the principle of overlaying one movie on top of another, but as with one other movie that I uploaded a few days ago, it won't run.

Are there any known glitches which stop some movies running or being downloadable from the gallery?

Is it a problem with sound or with the complexity of a file or what?
The other film I tried uploading (and which you deleted after I pointed out the problem) was just a single file without any overlays, but it was moderately complex as regards switching images and having a soundtrack.

You can, of course, now also delete the new upload failure - title is 'Ghost and bird - one movie overlaid on another'

It's probably some problems with your internet connection - we have never experienced any problems with uploads before. There is no reason, btw, that any complexity of the animation would affect uploading.
If you do experience time-outs, try reducing the size of the file (by reducing the animation frame size, or using good compression codec, like "xvid", when saving to "avi").
